WORK SESSION
OCTOBER 10, 2024

A work session of the City Council of Vinton, Iowa was held on the 10th day of October 2024 at 6:00pm in the City Hall Council Chambers. The following members were present: Elwick, Parmater, Pflughaupt, Recker and Stark-Mahood along with Mayor Maynard. Building Inspector Blake Hansen was also present.

Kevin Schlarbaum representing Peggy Schott, owner of 201 1st Avenue was present to provide a project update to the Council of the work being done at the property. Schott has until November 1, 2024 to bring the property into compliance as directed by the Order of Judgement. Schlarbaum shared the work that has been done in recent weeks as well as plans for the future work. Schlarbaum is requesting an extension however being the deadline has been set by the Courts, the City can only make a recommendation to the Courts to grant an extension.

No action was taken. The Council will consider the request at a future meeting.

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE
OCTOBER 10, 2024

A committee meeting of the City Council of Vinton, Iowa was held on the 10th day of October 2024 at 6:30pm in the City Hall Council Chambers. The following council members were present: Elwick, Parmater, Pflughaupt, Recker and Stark-Mahood along with Mayor Maynard. Officer Parmater was also present.

With construction at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, the police department is unable to house at-large dogs there currently. The dogs are temporarily held there until an owner can be located to pick up the animal. If no owner is located, the Cedar Valley Humane Society is contacted. The police department receives an average of 10-15 dog at large calls in a month.

No action was taken. City staff will visit a few locations to use until the plant construction is complete.
