VINTON CITY COUNCIL MEETING
MAY 6, 2021
A special meeting of the City Council of Vinton, Iowa was held on the 6th day of May, 2021 at 6:00pm in the City Hall Council Chambers. Mayor Pro Tem Stark called the meeting to order with the following council members answering roll call: Present – Edwards, Elwick, Gates, Hessenius, Stark. Absent – Parr.
Motion by Hessenius, second by Edwards to approve the agenda as presented. Question: Ayes – All. The Mayor Pro Tem declared the motion carried.
Mayor Maynard joined the meeting.
The City Council sought proposals from qualified Attorneys and Firms, by way of an RFP, interested in serving the City and being appointed as Vinton City Attorney. The City Council met with the three responding firms during this meeting – Mossman Law Firm, Lynch Dallas, PC, and Brick Gentry PC to further discuss their proposals and qualifications. Upon completion of the interviews, council felt that all three firms would meet the needs of the City. Consensus of the council was to extend the contract to Lynch Dallas. A contract and resolution will be prepared for the next council meeting.
Motion by Stark, second by Hessenius to enter into closed session per Iowa Code 21.5(1)(j). Question: Ayes – Edwards, Elwick, Gates, Hessenius, Stark. Nays – None. The Mayor declared the motion carried.
Motion by Hessenius, second by Stark to return into open session per Iowa Code 21.5(3). Question: Ayes – Edwards, Elwick, Gates, Hessenius, Stark. Nays – None. The Mayor declared the motion carried.
Motion by Edwards, second by Elwick to enter into an agreement to purchase certain real property. Question: Ayes – Edwards, Elwick, Gates, Hessenius, Stark. Nays – None. The Mayor declared the motion carried.
With no other business before the council, motion by Edwards, second by Gates to adjourn. Question: Ayes – All. The Mayor declared the motion carried.
