Notice of Intent to fill Vacant City Council Seat by Appointment
The Council of the City of Vinton, Iowa intends to fill the 4th Ward Council position, which will be vacant as of May 1, 2024 due to the resignation of the current 4th Ward Councilperson, by appointment. The Oath of Office will be administered during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on May 9, 2024 at 7:00pm, held in the City Council Chambers, Vinton City Hall.
Any person, to be eligible for appointment, must reside in the 4th ward on or before the date of appointment. If interested in being considered for appointment, an Application must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office on or before 4:00 pm, Friday April 26, 2024. Applications are available at the City Clerk’s Office during regular business hours to be picked up, or interested persons may call during regular business hours to request that an application be emailed. Any person who submits an application will be asked to interview with the City Council at a time to be determined during the week commencing Monday, April 29, 2024.
Eligible electors in Ward 4 may file a petition with the Council demanding a Special Election, within fourteen (14) days of the publication of this Notice or within fourteen (14) days of the Appointment of a person to fill the 4th Ward Council position, by filing a Petition with the City Clerk in accordance with Iowa Code Section 372.13(2)(a)(2). In the event a valid petition is received, the appointment to fill the vacancy is temporary and the Council will call Special Election to fill the vacancy permanently, all in accordance with Iowa Code 372.13.
This notice is given pursuant to the provisions of Section 372.13(2)(a) and 362.3 of the Code of Iowa.
