Library Director

The City of Vinton, a vibrant community along the banks of the Cedar River, is looking for an energetic and creative Library Director for the Vinton Public Library. Located in the middle of Iowa’s Technology Corridor, Vinton is located 10 miles west of I-380, approximately 30 minutes northwest of Cedar Rapids, and 35 minutes south of Waterloo. Vinton is the county seat of Benton County and offers the benefits of small-town living with easy access to metropolitan centers. Vinton (pop. approximately 5,100) offers many amenities that make it a prime location for living. It boasts a strong school system, a thriving downtown, as well as its own hospital, two outpatient clinics, two dentists, a movie theatre, country club and 9 hole golf course, public pool, splash pad and numerous city parks. In addition, the surrounding area includes bike and walking trails, campgrounds, boat landings, and county recreation facilities.
The Library Director position includes the following responsibilities:
• Provide outstanding customer service and coordinate community programming
• Staff supervision, reference and readers advisory, and facilities management
• Budgeting and finance, as well as grant writing and fundraising
• Working closely with the Board of Trustees, City Council, and attending City Council meetings as needed
Education and Experience:
• Master’s Degree in Library Science or Information Science or 5-7 years of director experience preferred. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.
• 3+ years of library / supervisory experience
• Good working knowledge of social media and other technology
• Individuals without a Master’s Degree must be willing to obtain said degree or State of Iowa Public Library Certification within 2 years of hire
• Preferential consideration will be given to candidates who are willing to reside in Vinton
Pay and Benefits:
• $56,000 base pay with additional salary possible based on education and years of experience
• Outstanding benefits package including insurance, IPERS, and paid vacation / sick leave / and holidays.
