The City of Vinton is accepting applications for a Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Official with knowledge of construction and building trades.  The position includes inspections of new construction and enforcement of the City’s property maintenance codes.  Qualified applicants will have good customer service skills including good written and verbal communication skills.

A Building Inspector performs highly skilled, technical inspection work in securing compliance with the Municipal Building Codes and related ordinances. An employee is an active team associate involved in examining methods or processes, making recommendations for changes, and assisting in the success of those changes for completion of inspection activities. The Building Inspector inspects buildings and appurtenances in the process of construction for compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, nuisance abatement and zoning codes. This position is responsible for performing related duties as required.

Graduation from high school or GED. Any combination of training, education, and work experience equivalent to good (1 – 3 years) construction work experience.  Supplemental coursework in building construction and possession of a technical certification from International Code Council (ICC) or any major model code organization is desirable.
