SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

AUGUST 2, 2018

A regular meeting of the City Council of Vinton, Iowa, was held on the 2nd day of August, 2018, at 7:00 p.m., in the City Hall Council Chambers, Vinton, Iowa.  Mayor Maynard presided and the roll being called the following Council Members were present and absent:  Present:  Elwick, Hesson, Parr, Stark.  Absent:  Edwards, Hessenius.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Dennis Lausar and Jon Kremer, Braille School Committee members, discussed their recommendation of the South Campus Area and the South Area of the Braille School property.  On the South Campus Area they have planned six acres for housing, which could be 16 single family units or 32 condo units.  The City would own the recreation and pool building and the land that has the geo-thermal well field.  The South Area, currently known as Kiwanis Park, would remain as a recreation area and green space, would become a City owned park.  The Parks and Recreation department would be able to move forward with their plans for a splash pad.  Approximately four acres along the highway could potentially become the location for emergency facilities.  Lausar stated the design phase has been completed and next would be development agreements.  The AmeriCorps lease is expected soon.  Motion by Stark, second by Parr to show intent to proceed with the committee’s recommended use of the campus and have Council approve the plan on the next regular Council agenda.  Question:  Ayes – All.  The Mayor declared the motion carried.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.  Time:  7:40 p.m.
